NFC Competes at US Club Soccer Regional - 6/27/2005

Tulsa, OK- Nebraska Futbol Club sent its first team to US Club Soccer’s Regional in Tulsa this weekend. Catenaccio finished second in Region H by finishing the weekend with one win, two ties, and a loss. NFC opened the tournament on Thursday by playing against Austin United Capitals from Aunstin, TX. Both teams fought hard and had multiple opportunities to score however, neither team could put the ball in the back of the net and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.  Catenaccio returned on Friday to play Springfield Soccer Club from Springfield, MO.  NFC came out flat in the 95° heat of Oklahoma and lost the game 2-0. On the final day of the tournament Catenaccio sat in last place with two games remaining. They opened the morning against Classics Soccer Club from Houston, TX.  Zach Harris scored the only goal of the game off of a well placed through ball from Issac Inungary. The Classics fought hard to get an equalizer however, Goalkeeper Matt Hudson came up with his second shutout of the tournament. NFC returned in the afternoon to play the final game of the tournament against JSC Kicksmart from Tulsa, OK.  Matt Sifers scored early in the first half by breaking loose from the defense and placing a shot just wide of the oncoming goalkeeper. JSC tied the game just before half however, Luke Zabawa hit a great shot from about 20 yards out to take the lead. Once again JSC was able to find the back of the net and the despite chances towards the end of the game neither team could break the tie.  Austin United Capitals finished first and earned a spot in the US Club Soccer's National Cup IV in Jacksonville, FL.
