(1-2-2025) - NFC's men's teams competed in the Winter Blast 9v9 tournament at the Center last week, with the NFC Men and NFC En Fuego advancing to the semis. The tournament featured dozens of local college standouts, and a handful of current professional players. Highlights:
- NFC Men advanced to the semis, before losing 4-2 to NFC En Fuego. The Men had impressive wins over Bellevue University and NFC Diamante. The Men were led by GK Tyler Krisp, defenders Dave Amdor, Ryan Junge, Steve Graner and Tom Garvey, midfielders Tony Odorisio, Ryan Amdor and Eric Sterrett, and by attackers Jeff, Andy and Rob Stewardson.
- NFC En Fuego advanced to the finals against a team of former college all stars, before falling 4-2. En Fuego had one of the best matches of tournament in the first match, against former MLS player Chris Brunt. En Fuego was led by former A-League players David Wright (who currently trains NFC Invictus and NFC Diamante), current Creighton players Tim Bohnenkamp, Matt Allen and Tony Schimtz, as well as long-time players Mike Stillmock, Rob Minnis, Brian Kronberg, Dave Nealon and Mike Rafe. Western Illinois' Nick Bohnenkamp and UMKC's Steve Manino also played for EF.
- NFC Real was the surprise team of the men's tournament, with strong performances against the NFC Men and Bellevue. Real's pressure led their opponents to lose possession frequently, causing several counter attack goals.
- NFC Caliente was led by coaches Keith Defini and Johnnie Anderson. The team represented themselves well, with three close games.
- NFC Diamante, the youngest team in the tournament, competed hard in all of their games and showed coach Stannard and the boys are on the right track.
Congratulations to all NFC participants!
